Hisop, located just outside of the Eixample district of Barcelona, is a great little restaurant serving top class modern Catalan cuisine. Launched in 2001 by two former chefs from the prestigious Neichel restaurant, Guillem Pla and Oriol Ivern, Hisop is an adventurous eatery with a menu that combines a whole range of flavours. The restaurant is styled in a cool minimalistic way with white walls, high wooden ceilings and red and black decor. Test tube vases are attached to the walls each containing a single red rose. The menu is by no means minimal; it is a fusion of fantastic flavours and beautifully presented dishes. The names are deceptively simple but the dishes are complex creations that are simply delectable such as scallops with pumpkin and flowers, sea cucumber with salsify, veal shank, rabbit, beef with ceps and french fries. The desserts are an explosion of incredible flavours and aromas such as peach with ginger and fennel or strawberries with chamomile. Don’t forget to finish you meal off with one of Hisop’s amazing cheese boards which include nearly 10 different varieties of the most amazing cheeses. There's also an excellent wine list favoring top vintages from the Rioja and local Penedés vineyards. Hisop is a really exciting place to dine and is ideal for those who are really excited by food. A real credit to the city of Barcelona.

I had read the newspaper reviews and heard from other diners that Hisop was good value and very good food. I am pleased to say that my experience was great. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and thought the service was just right

Hisop is a restaurant to visit if you fancy treating yourself - If you pick carefully then it will not work out too expensive - You will have to 100% book in advance , we went on a friday night at 9pm and loads of people were being turned away as they were fully booked for the whole weekend !
