Type of cuisine: Spanish

Average price: €31.00

Serving fantastic traditional Spanish cuisine, Botin is a historical Madrid landmark

Botin is a real Madrid treasure and is, according to the Guinness Book of Records, the oldest restaurant in the world, dating back to 1725. Botin is a charming restaurant and has a few stories to tell. It is mentioned in Benito Pérez Galdos’ book “Fortunata y Jacinta” and Hemingway pronounced it as his favourite restaurant and included it in his work “The Sun also Rises”. It is also believed that the artist Goya worked at Botin as a dishwasher. Located just off Madrid’s Plaza Mayor, it is a popular restaurant, not only for its history, but for its great food. The menu is traditionally Spanish and the signature dishes here are the roast suckling pig and roast lamb, both of which are delicious. The building is beautiful with all its original features, wooden beamed dining rooms over 4 floors and wood fire ovens dating back centuries. Musical groups singing traditional songs, dressed in typical costume complete with knickerbockers sometimes serenade diners. Step back in time and make a visit to Botin, it’s not every day that you get to dine in the oldest restaurant in the world!

I lived in Madird for 5 years and ate at Botin at least 2 times a month. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is excellent, the owners are wonderful people. It is not only the oldest in the world but the most fascinating and I miss it terribly. I ate at the Miami version twice. If you happen to read this Antionio we miss you, Botin and Spain.
